When Your Life Is On Fire
page Arthur Waskow
A great rabbi by the name of Arthur Waskow, when asked what he would rescue from a burning home, said he would rescue his ketubah, which is his marriage license. As Arthur put it, “The Talmud teaches us that you can only acquire Torah with a companion, and Phyllis [his wife] is my companion. Without Phyllis, no Torah.” A wonderful meditation on the holiness of companionship, companion coming from the old Latin companes, which meant, “with bread”. In relationship, we feed one another.
