Don’t Let Fear Stop You! Kolenda continues: Fear comes in many varieties: fear of failure, fear of criticism, fear of rejection and fear of man to name just a few. Fear causes many people to bury their talents within themselves and to live below their potential. But your talent doesn’t belong to you. The Master has loaned it to you and one day you will give an account for how you have used it, invested it and multiplied it for His glory. A common regret people have at the end of their lives is that they did not take enough risks. You only have one life to live. Don’t waste it in a prison of fear. Take risks, face your fears and fulfill God’s purpose for your life!

Take Action: In order to fly, an airplane needs “lift.” Lift comes from speed, and speed comes from “thrust.” Thrust is the power that pushes the aircraft forward, and without it nothing else matters. The aerodynamic design, the well-trained pilot in the cockpit, the sophisticated navigational technology, and the tank full of jet fuel are all useless unless the engines come alive and provide forward motion. In your life, the only one who can provide the forward motion is you. God will be your pilot. He will provide the wind beneath your wings and the fuel in your tank, but you have to give Him some momentum to work with. You cannot do God’s part, and God will not do your part. Your part is to get into gear, get off your armchair, and get moving.

Encountering Resistance: Christian clichés such as, “Where God guides He provides” can sometimes lead us to think that if we are in God’s will the journey should be easy and smooth. Especially in difficult seasons of life it is easy to begin to wonder if we have really heard God’s call and if He is really with us. But often the greater God’s plan for one’s life the more difficult path will be and the more it will require real determination and perseverance. If fulfilling God’s purpose for your life were easy no one would be interested in reading my book. But using God’s Word as our guide we can safely navigate every obstacle and realize the fullness of our God-given destinies.

Step 4. Re-Connect With Your Child Daily. All parents need to repeatedly reconnect with their children, just to repair the daily erosion created by life’s normal separations and distractions, says Dr. Markham. Humans connect most quickly through physical touch. So slow down, let go of distractions, and really engage with your child. Snuggle after lights-out to hear what he’s looking forward to tomorrow. Plop down on the couch to give your teen a foot rub and trigger those bonding hormones. Start a chase game with your toddler or preschooler to get her giggling and relieve stress. Encourage sibling bonding with a "kids against parents" pillow fight. (Let the kids win.)
