I Want a Better Marriage

Gracious and Loving God,

You created us to love one another and for marriage to be a special bond of love, trust, and mutual respect between a husband and wife.

I love my spouse, but I see far too many ways that we fall short of what You have planned for us. Both of us have failed to express the love, the kindness, the respect, and the words that foster a wonderful relationship. As I call to You for help to turn my marriage around, O God, I don’t bring grievances and judgment against my spouse, but lay my own sins and shortcomings before You. I confess that I don’t have the words, thoughts, attitude, and deeds to make my marriage better in my own strength. I need You to fill me with your grace and wisdom that I may extend that grace and wisdom to my spouse.

With Your help, I promise to do all that is in my power to improve my marriage. I ask that You give me patience when problems don’t disappear instantly or I don’t get the immediate response from my spouse I was looking for. Most of all I ask that You help me love and respect my spouse as you taught us through Your love of the church.
I affirm my faith that You make all things new—and that You can transform my marriage into a relationship of love and respect and joy. Continue to bless me as I bless my spouse and marriage.

I pray all this in the blessed name of Jesus.

My Parent’s Health Is Deteriorating

Father God,

I thank You for my parents and all the blessings that they have provided for me.

You know the situation I have with a parent who is not doing well healthwise as they grow older. You know their physical, mental, and emotional condition.

I ask that You draw them near to You and that at this stage of life they would have a wonderful sense of Your love and presence. May the hope and promise of eternal life be a consolation in all their difficulties.

I pray also that You would guide both them and all family members so that we would make the very best decisions on treat¬ments, living arrangements, and everything else that contributes to their health and lifestyle.

My parent has been a help to me countless times, and I pray that now I would be a help and blessing to them. Grant me the energy and grace to be all that I need to be for them at this time—and fulfill all other obligations I have in life.

I pray that there would be improvement physically and mentally so my parent feels good and can remain appropriately active.
All this I pray in the name of Jesus.

So let us seize and hold fast and retain without wavering the hope we cherish and confess and our acknowledgement of it, for He Who promised is reliable (sure) and faithful to His word. I Need a Job

Heavenly Father,

I am willing and ready to work. It is harder for me not to work than to work. Yes, there are some jobs I have turned down because they cannot support the financial obligations I am currently under. However if there is a lesser job than what I have had in the past that I need to accept for the purpose of humility and because there will be greater opportunities there, I pray that you help me to find pride in whatever I put my hand to.

I do ask that You would help me find the job that matches my abilities and training, that will meet my financial obligations, that will give me an opportunity to shine. I pray that my name would come to mind with friends and former colleagues who know of job opportunities that are right for me.

I pray that You would open doors for me as I seek interviews. Give me special creativity in finding the right employment situation. I ask for determination to keep turning my application in—even if I must face many rejections before finding the right job.

If there are special areas of service I can perform during this time of unemployment, I thank You for putting me to good use. I know there will be blessings within the tasks I perform—and perhaps service will be the avenue through which I find my next job.

I trust You to meet all my needs and I thank You that You are working on my behalf to find the right job.

I Need to Simplify My Life

Dear God of Peace,

My life feels cluttered right now. My household is not in order. I can’t find anything. I am working on many things and not doing any of them very well. I don’t feel connected to friends and family because I am running so many different directions. I’m forgetting things and then showing up late!

I know, dear God, You are not the author of confusion. I know that the enemy of my soul would love to create so many distractions and worries that I forget to trust and love You. He would love nothing more than to rob me of my joy. He would love to see my lose my sense of priority.

But You are a God of peace! I turn to You right now for guidance on what things I need to hold tightly to, and what things I need to let go of. I have taken on too much and have become distracted by things that don’t really matter. I know there are even some good activities I need to forgo in order that I do what’s best. I know as I lean on You today that You will bring a new sense of order and peace to my life and to my household.

Thank you for peace.

I Am Struggling with Temptation

Dear God,

I am losing the battle with temptation right now. You know I want to do the right thing. But I am consistently doing the opposite of what I know is right, of what you want and expect from me. I am disappointed and embarrassed in myself. I am discouraged that I am defeated so easily. Spiritual defeats have me barely hanging on to my faith.
Thank You first of all that You know the power of temptation and understand what I am going through. Thank You for offering instant forgiveness. You promised that if I confess my sin You are faithful to forgive that sin and all my sins. Thank You most of all that You still love me, even when I give in to temptation.

I confess I simply don’t have the strength to win my spiritual battles. I can’t do it. What I am specifically asking for now is a strength to overcome the temptations that I don’t possess through good intentions and personal determination. My own efforts haven’t worked. Please give me Your strength. Go before me. Fight my battles with me and for me. Do for me what I can’t do myself. Thank You for turning my weakness into strength.

May you be strengthened with all power, according to his glorious might, for all endurance and patience with joy. —Colossians 1:11 esv
