My Daughter Received the Gift of Hearing

In 2006 surgery restored my daughter's hearing. She had been practically deaf since she was seven--she's now 31--after having chicken pox along with an extremely high fever. Doctors couldn't help her (they said it was nerve damage) and hearing aids never helped at all. She is now married and the mother of a beautiful little girl, Chloe.

My daughter did a lot of research on the Internet and found a doctor in our state who does cochlear implants. We all prayed over her before her appointment and, miraculously, the doctor told her to return for surgery in a week. Now she is fully recovered and, for the first time in 24 years, she hears the birds singing, the telephone ringing, the doorbell, her daughter's voice, etc. Truly that's the best thing that could have ever happened for me. We are all thankful for this miracle. Prayer does work--I know it firsthand.

A Teacher Makes a Difference

The most wonderful thing that happened to me this year was helping my students so they could believe in themselves and get their GED. Among the most inspiring was Penny, who was delayed for many years in realizing this dream of hers (to get her diploma). She is now in college, is very happy, and setting a wonderful example for her children and grandchildren.

She sent me a message that that said: "You will never know how much I appreciate your kindness, love, and patience. Remember, I told you that I would remember the person who helped me take that first step. And because of you, I now am able to do things I only dreamed of. You made me believe that I could do it and not to be afraid to try."

I am so happy when my students succeed, and I feel grateful and blessed that I was allowed to assist them in their journey.

A Disabled Woman Gets Better Mobility

I had childhood polio and have been in wheelchairs and scooters almost all my life. I've really loved scooters--as they have let me live a fuller life than I could ever do in a wheelchair. If I'm in a wheelchair, I can't get close enough to a bed, toilet, or chair to be able to scoot over like I can with my scooter.

Years ago my insurance company paid for most of my last scooter. But last year they changed their policy, and now they will only help cover wheelchairs. I was devastated and did not know what I would do.

But two of my friends gave me money--not only to buy the most perfect scooter (the seat raises up and down 5 inches, and now I can actually see myself in the bathroom mirror and wash dishes in the kitchen sink!), but also to buy a tiny travel scooter. Now it's easy for them to take me out to a movie or out to eat. I can't believe I'm blessed with such caring, generous friends.

My Friend Survived Breast Cancer

My dear friend Rosie Elliott, only 52, was diagnosed with breast cancer in June. We were all very worried but prayed so diligently for God to heal her--and HE DID! She had the cancerous breast removed and along with that all the cancer, say the doctors. All throughout this hardship she has had an inspiring faith in our Lord and has been so uplifting and happy. She knows she will continue to lead her beautiful life. She has had her husband's support (who, by the way, is my ex-husband), as well as support from family and friends. She also had so many beautiful prayers to our Savior. It was HIS Christmas gift to all of us, and for this I am so happy.
