Element and Quality of Leo

Leo is the second of the Fire signs, and is ruled by the Sun. The Sun in the birthchart represents our essential Self, and it is the development and expression of the Self that is of primary concern to Leo. Like other fire signs, Leo shares the quality of courage and inspiration, but Leo is a fixed fire sign so the initiative of fire is rooted in a deep and powerful strength that perseveres rather than burn out quickly. As with all fixed signs there is a love of organization and a sense of structure. When the Leo ego is healthy, no one else shines as brightly. However, the Leo whose innate pride has been damaged can appear self-centered and obnoxious.
