Day 6: The Joy of Weight Loss

Much unhappiness comes from two things: fear and attachment. Think about it. Have you ever worried yourself sick over what might happen, only to discover that what really happened was quite positive and completely unexpected? How many times have you expected someone to do something, only to be disappointed or let down? How often do you depend on something happening, and when it doesn't, you get very upset?
Once you've surrendered everything to God and tune into His consciousness, all attachments, fears, and worries disappear. Then everything is perfect, no matter what happens. Only when you are not aligned with the will of God is there unhappiness or suffering. Why? Because the pain of unhappiness and suffering intensifies the more we fight against it.Often when we're worried or suffering, we resort to food in order to be comforted. It's the cheapest, most readily available self-medication. Unfortunately, as we all know, it has significant side effects! Next time you reach for an extra helping or a snack you really don't want--try looking to God. Say a prayer or just be silent for a moment and feel God's presence. God is calorie-free!
TODAY
1. Surrender self-conscious feelings and be a kid again. Today is a great day to play. Go to a park or playground and swing on a swing. Ride a merry-go-round! Or hang upside down on the jungle gym. Take a field trip to a museum to take in that exhibit you have been dying to see but haven't had the time.
2. Take time--five minutes is fine--to connect with your heart and soul. Pray, meditate, or contemplate. Be thankful. Give God the problems and joys. Ask Him for help.
3. When you're eating or about to eat, be mindful of what you're feeling. Pay attention to your emotions, and see if there's any connection to eating. Ask yourself, "Am I eating because I am hungry? Or is there an emotion behind my consumption?" Either way, ask God to assist.
See you tomorrow!
