Don’t assume that a beverage with “sports” in its name is healthful. They can contain surprising amounts of sugar, for example, about 30 to 35 grams of sugar per can. Vitamin water—a new drink category—can contain about 13 grams of sugar per eight-ounce serving. Green tea is a healthful drink if you make it from water and green tea leaves; buy it in a bottle from a big company and you can be looking at 13 to 20 or more grams of added sugar.
