9 Support Tips from Cancer Survivors

Cancer survivor

By Lori Hope

It's been seven years since I had cancer, but I'll never forget feeling like an anchor sinking into an ocean of despair.

A buoyant lifeboat of love from friends, coworkers, family, and even acquaintances came to rescue me. But a few people unknowingly punched holes in my vessel of hope by regaling me with advice, sharing horror stories about others with cancer, or simply disappearing without any explanation.

After I recovered, I wrote a book about what people with cancer want others to know, based on extensive research, including scores of interviews with survivors and health and communications professionals.

In this gallery, you'll read some of the most heartfelt and insightful comments from cancer survivors in my book, which can teach you how to best support your friend, colleague, or loved one.
