Another hair-killer is our old enemy, stress. If you’ve ever had a tension headache, you know that tension likes to settle in our heads, including the scalp. Stress from a tense scalp can result in dried, damaged-looking hair. Find ways to de-stress. Massage your scalp every time you shampoo to help relax tightened muscles. Many of us are unaware that thermal stress can do serious damage to our hair. Moving from hot to cold environments and back again stresses our body, including our hair. Since most of us live in air-conditioning in the hot summer, it’s no wonder summer hair can look extra-frazzled. You can’t always fight the temperature, but you can fight back against the thermal damage by adding lots of extra moisture to your hair. A good way to do this is to deep condition once a week or more to compensate for those summer hot-and-cold flashes. Use a moisturizing shampoo. Let your hair air-dry as often as you can.
