Actress Suzanne Somers was told “We have never seen so much cancer” in her diagnoses of breast cancer in 2001. Somers refused chemotherapy and aftercare drugs, but had a lumpectomy and radiation, which made her breasts uneven and reconstruction. Reconstruction choices are limited for women. Somers became the first women in the US to receive stem cell breast reconstruction surgery (clinical trial) and miffed the medical community. “What is it about our human nature that we feel the need to defend the choices we’ve made when it comes to our medical treatment?”
