Find something you like. “Retail therapy” is not such a bad idea if you can afford your purchases—when you’re down in the dumps, doing something you love can rev up your mood. If shopping is out, find something else (non-edible)—even if it seems frivolous—and indulge. This might be a long walk on a nature trail at the state park, going to a comedy club, learning to knit, listening to happy music, doing a puzzle, or calling up some old friends. Depression can sneak up on us when our lives are so filled with purposeful things that we forget to do pleasurable things.
