Two things will make your depression worse: not having enough to do and having a lot of mindless stuff to do. Pick one or two things that you can do—today—that will keep you occupied but in a valuable way. For example, educate yourself by going to a museum, reading a historical biography, or taking a computer class. Do some good. For instance, volunteer with your local congregation, charity, or nursing home. If you know someone who is having a rough time this season, bring them some gifts or groceries. Cook dinner for a shut-in friend, teach the children in your life how to bake cookies, or help an elderly neighbor with some household chores.
