I affirm these things.

In the last couple days, I've been wondering if all these rules to live by can't be summed up in two words, "be nice."

God does in fact know that it is not easy to consistently live up to these Seven Principles. On the other hand God also knows that plenty of UUs repeatedly disregard and devalue them and flagrantly violate them on an ongoing basis. Many UUs seem to have brainwashed themselves into believing that repeatedly affirming and promoting these Seven Principles, for instance by engraving them onto the walls of UU "churches", equates with actually practicing them. Just yesterday a UU passing my picket signs protesting UU religious intolerance and endorsement of abusive clergy misconduct said that I don't have a leg to stand on because these Seven Principles are written on the wall of the church as it were. Huh? http://homepage.altavista.com/unitarian_church_montreal/protest.html

I am so glad to see this elaboration here. The words are beautiful, and I will try to take them to heart. It isn't easy, God knows! But at least I know this passage is here and can come back and look at it, reflect upon it, and maybe live my own life a little better and wiser (very doubtful!! but I can try!) :-) I ho-pe it stays up awhile (like for the rest of my life, for instance) Gail

What a beautiful set of principles. Oh, that these could be the focus of all religions. I lurk sometimes on these boards, and I like UUism very much.

It is difficult to live up to these principles but I am trying.
