“The teachings of Islam made me scared of God,” he recently told the Christian advocacy group Open Doors. “We were taught if we died as martyrs for Islam, for example as suicide bombers, we would go directly to paradise. But I thought why would God want us to hate others and kill them? I felt this was a distorted view of God. As a result, I started to read books on philosophy. I was searching for answers. I was very curious.”
