The faithful who wait on the Lord are often pictured as rising up on eagles' wings, but the writer of Isaiah may have meant to refer to a vulture in this well-known image. The Hebrew word “nesher” is often translated in our English versions of the Bible as eagle, but most scholars agree that “Griffon Vulture” is at least an alternative, if not a more fitting translation.
