Unlike rival philosophies or psychologies that propose solutions, the Psalms ask our questions. They jostle our belief and unravel our clichés. Their ancient images rearrange and redo, break apart and reassemble our tried and tired spirituality. Sometimes they unnerve us. Sometimes they abruptly end our old assumptions. And in doing so, they give our faith fresh vigor and offer us a place to belong.
