Respect the “Chain of Custody.” Detectives are sometimes accused of inserting evidence into the crime scene after the fact to “frame” a particular suspect. How can we be sure that a piece of evidence truly came from the scene of the crime? One way is to establish the evidential “chain of custody”. If we can track a piece of evidence from its earliest sighting at the crime scene to its first appearance in court, we can have confidence that the evidence is authentic and early. Something similar can be done as we track the claims of the gospel eyewitnesses over the course of time.
