The Faith of Our Founding Fathers

the birth of religious liberty

By Steven Waldman

On July 4th, America celebrates its independence and its core principle of religious freedom. But the birth of religious liberty was a long and difficult struggle, as I discovered in researching my recent book, Founding Faith. On Beliefnet we're proud to make available the Founding Faith Archive, where you can find a collection of documents and personal letters from the Founding Fathers about their religious lives and religious liberty. In honor of Independence Day, we offer a collection of art and drawings depicting important historical moments and themes of religious freedom in America.

Begin to discover the faith of our founding fathers.
