What Does the Bible Teach Us About Food?

Food is God's most basic way of saying, "I love you!"

I am so grateful for this. I think from a Christian Science (CS) perspective, it's prayer, knowing the Truth, praying about it and gaining the spiritual sense of it, getting a glimpse of the reality of All, of God's oneness, his infinity and his love. From a human perspective I think it's called caring for others and doing what we can to help, humanly - humanity - again I go back to the Lord's prayer - "Thy kingdom come." and MBE's interpretation "Thy kingdom is come; Thou art ever present." What a wonderful gift, knowing that God is All, is good and is here with us now, ever present, present everywhere. In Gods' kingdom, there is only harmony, peace, abundance, supply for all. God feeds us and it must be, is wonderful. This view may not appear to address the worldly belief of what seems to be the need to ‘feed’ millions starving right now but sharing from both a materially and spiritually sense (to human sense) enables all of us to express gratitude for what we do have/know and not letting anything go to waste. God is Love. "God saw everything that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Genesis 1:31. The quick answer to the question is: NO. God provides for us, nurtures us, cares and loves us. God is Love. In the bible there are heaps of references connecting man to God, food being an important one both spiritually and materially. i think I have a deeper understanding, thank you Abambagibus for helping me answer my own prayers! I have found exploring your question truly enlightening

Matthew 15:32-38 also shows Gods abundance of supply and to think spiritually about the whole matter. Christ instructs us to “Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?.” Matthew 7:19-32 reminds us to know that God meets all our need. He is caring for us (us meaning everyone) and when we acknowledge this and are grateful for the good we can see, evidenced in this material world, we start to see more of it, more of God's evidence meeting human need around us and around the world! What do I see? Do I see this false sense of mortal starvation, no food, no water, what appears like a hopeless situation but God is there. Can I see through this false sense to find God as Love, Principle, Life, Truth, Mind, Soul, Spirit expressing himself as life, abundance, supply, guidance and protection. An unfolding of his ideas and completeness? od is always revealing himself to us. God feeds us, supplies us with spiritual truths, spiritual understanding. My son just got home, walked in the door and he said (for no apparent reason!), "Mum, this is how you do it - 3 meals a day, no snacking if you want to loose weight”. Here I am thinking these thoughts and he comes in and tells me this out the blue. I like that, to loose weight, drop the material beliefs that appear to be holding me back, weighing me down in my knowledge of my relationship with God, no snacking on food, no entertaining an incorrect view of man. God feeds all of us. We are weightless, full - complete, harmonious - peaceful, protected - secure. We only know God, one God, who is good.. Did not Daniel pray 3 times a day? Isn't this the spiritual sense of eating 'food?. This understanding that God is All, the only law including his creation enables me to realise reality in a spiritual sense, as MBE describes it, a glimpse of what is real. No imbalance, sense of unfairness, no lack of supply. God is all. No material exisistence, no hunger, pestitlence or pain. God is infinite supply - unlimited fuzzies - good thoughts, unlimited food, whatever we need - filled up full with Love.

Mary Baker Eddy (MBE) states "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need” Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy (S & H) page 494:10-11. I also have been exploring the Lords’ Prayer with MBEs spiritual interpretation and am exploring ideas around “ Forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors” and “Love is reflected in love”. (Matthew 6:12 & S & H 16-17). God is Love. He cares for us and meets all our needs. Another story in the Bible that comes to mind to demonstrate God's Love and care for his children is the story of Hagar and her son. When no water was there and it looked like her son was going to die, God supplied water - actually an abundance of water - a well of water – quenching both her spiritual and material needs. Genesis 21:14-20. MBE explains that water "sybolises the elements of Mind" S&H 501:3. God opened Hagar's eyes, enabling her to see a well of water right in the place where she was, God’s supply right there, in the wilderness meeting human need all along. When we turn away, let go of all material sense and seek God's help, there we find him, supplying whatever we need.

Does the statement that Food is God’s most basic way of saying, “I love you. I want to provide for you by nurturing you with food that is beautiful and delectable”, mean that He doesn't really care for the millions who are starving?
