It might be the least-observed advice that the Apostle Paul ever wrote: While telling spouses not to withhold sex, he also advised them to "deprive each other...for a time, so that you may devote yourselves to prayer" (I Cor. 7:5). If Lent is a time of utter consecration to God, then it can also be a time where husbands and wives take the moments they want to give to each other, and give them to God instead. It's hard to think of a more counter-cultural action for married Christians to take these days, which may be reason enough to try it.

Remember--Sundays are feast days, so a Lenten break from sex might redefine the way you spend those lolling hours after church.
