There are an equally large number of sayings and expressions from Classical mythology like that mentioned by revsharkie. The Achilles Heel from the Iliad, It Augurs Well/Poor from the Roman art of avian divination, Between a Rock and a Hard Place comes from the Odyssey, just to name a few. I don't think that common phrases and sayings have anything to do with a person's spiritual life but merely the culture they grew up in. Ours is clearly influenced by Christianity and Classical paganism in ways we can't see all the time.

Note also what's NOT here, and not in the Bible: "God helps those who help themselves."
