While you're putting your best face forward with a man, don't ignore your inner wardrobe! The Bible pays a lot of attention to clothing, and how we dress--inside and out is important to God.

***

What does fear have to do with marring beauty? I asked myself, and then it hit me. Fear makes you a control freak, which is most unattractive! Do you know when you look most beautiful to a man? When you're not giving him a hard time. When he says, "Let me handle it," and you say, "Okay"--and actually behave as if you trust him to handle it. Well--his heart beats a little faster at the look of complete trust and confidence in him upon your face....

The Bible makes many references to garments of salvation, garments of praise, and robes of righteousness...you see where this is heading! Fear tells you that you have to add another layer of makeup, buy more expensive accessories, and wear tighter, skimpier clothing. Fear whispers that you have to compete with all the other cuties out there, and that you don't measure up.

Because "man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart," it's safe to assume that a godly man--and that is the type of man you really want--is of the same mindset. He might initially be moved by what he sees, but eventually he's going to look past that and begin checking out your spirit (see Samuel 16:7).

So dress it up girl! "What should I wear?" is the first question we ask as we dash off to tell a friend about our hot date. Let me make a few wardrobe suggestions.

Wear the Right Color

First of all, the color red is always stunning. Red is the color of redemption, not to be confused with scarlet or crimson. It's important to wear true red, which is most complimentary to your spiritual complexion. And white undergarments are a must. White is the color of purity. These things should be easy to find because God promises that though our sins be as scarlet he will make us white as snow, though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool (Isaiah 1:18). So if you're wearing the wrong shade, it's not too late to make an exchange.

Get Some Good Footwear

Now let's work on those feet, girl! According to God's fashion guide, "How beautiful on the mountaintops are the feet of those who bring goods news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation" (Isaiah 52:7 NIV). If your conversation is always uplifting and you're someone who brings peace where there is anxiety and upheaval, who always has a word to encourage, to exhort, that man--everyone for that matter--will be happy to see you coming. Therefore, your feet need to be "shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace" (Ephesians 6:15). Move over, Stuart Weitzman, these shoes are definitely made for walking!

Complete the Outfit

Well, we can't have you walking around in just shoes, can we? So what else should you wear? Let's start by covering your breast with righteousness. "When a [woman's] ways please the LORD, he makes even [her] enemies to be at peace with [her]" (Proverbs 16:7). If a mere dress could do that, stores wouldn't be able to keep it in stock. Everyone would want one!

Now cinch in that waist with the belt of truth. Not your personal truth, God's truth.... A good belt pulls your entire outfit together and keeps it from falling down.

And now for your accessories! I have a hat fetish. How about you? I prefer salvation berets, trimmed with fur, of course. When salvation crowns your head, it affects your mindset. It rearranges your priorities and puts them in divine order. This will affect every area of your life, including how you handle relationships. But we're not done yet! The sword of the Spirit and the shield of faith are fabulous accessories that definitely make a power statement. Wrap yourself in the zeal of God and you, my dear, will be a showstopper! Now that's an outfit!

One look at you and the man in your life will proclaim, "From Zion, perfect in beauty, God shines forth" (Psalm 50:2). That's the real beauty of holiness. Wear it well!
