IN RE: "observer3 12/10/2007 11:23:23 PM Q: Where did the common image of Jesus come from"? A: The Shroud of Turin" I would think the original image of Jesus came from Jesus himself... not neccissarily the shroud he was wrapped in... as well as oral communication and what the ideas were of men of Jesus his age during the time he was crucified.

Q: Where did the common image of Jesus come from"? A: The Shroud of Turin Early artists without access to the Shroud produced beardless Jesus'. After artists saw the Shroud, the Jesus image suddenly changed to the image we all know & love.

I see Jesus as looking rather large built with darker skin and very brown curly hair that is sun bleached in spots and darker in others. He has broad shoulders and wears a very simple natural white course woven garment with frayed sleeve edges on it. Supremely gentle touch and manner with people. He talks with children and adults who around a well and they have huge earthen jugs for the water.

I remember a wonderful woman in my church who testified to the suffering of Jesus and how His beard was plucked. I am not aware of a beard mentioned in the New Testament, but it is in the prophecy written in Isaiah 50:6. I wasn't sure of the verse until I emailed my dear friend. (Giving credit where it is due.) So, I believe He does have a beard. And He is Beautiful.

From as far back as I can remember Jesus was white. I often wondered how did they come to that. Well the Bible says Jesus is love and love has no color.

All you have to do is read the Bible if you want to know what Jesus looked like. He wasn't white, black, asian, or anything but Jewish. The Bible clearly states that. His skin color is only part of what most pictures of the crucifixion get wrong. The OT says that his beard was pulled out and that he hardly resembled a man. That is a far cry from the squeaky clean image of the cross that we are used to seeing. People were so upset about The Passion being brutal; I would say that it wasn't even close to reality. People just can't handle the truth.

I beleive JESUS, had a olive-dark look, more like arabic people of his day. JESUS was a Jew and a carpenter. He had long hair, like all the people,he also had a beard. JESUS,was not a white person, like some of the crosses you see, today.Beyond this, however, each age has produced its own variant of the JESUS,image to meet its own needs, projections, and beliefs.
