“I say in the book, I think Trixie was a theophony, an entrance of God into my life,” Koontz told Mason.

 Losing Trixie to cancer devastated him. "My wife and I couldn't hardly mention that dog's name for six months that we didn't start crying." In Trixie's memory, they put a plaque on their porch – and contributed in her name to Canine Companions.
