Before you think all you need to do is get a bunch of activists to join your cause, think again. The key — as the 1980 U.S. men’s Olympic hockey coach Herb Brooks said — is not necessarily getting the best people on your team but the right people. When it comes to underdog influence, the “right” people are led by a cohesive lead dog; they are connected; and they are converts. Are you recruiting the right people for your team? Are they connected to those you need to influence? Are they converts to your cause? If so, your team has a better chance of succeeding.
