“I remember one childhood story that shines notably right in my memory,” recalls ABC Good Morning America anchor Robin Roberts’s mother, the remarkable Lucimarian Roberts. “During the Depression my mother cooked on a woodstove in the basement because our electricity had been turned off. On one occasion when my father was home between drinking binges, the family gathered for dinner around a makeshift table in the basement.”
