Gosling was brilliant this year in a highly stylized action film ("Drive"), a romantic comedy ("Crazy, Stupid, Love"), and a drama ("The Ides of March"). Albert Brooks, well known as a comic actor, gave a galvanizing performance as a villain in "Drive." Both were shamefully overlooked by the Academy. I did love Brooks' pre-announcement tweet, though: "Tomorrow morning I find out if I have to go to any more events that Christopher Plummer wins."
