This 2003 book is a cornerstone of the postmodern, emergent Church movement. Holy hipsters tired of Christianity-as-usual found solace in Donald Miller’s spiritual essays and memoir. In the book, the author takes classes at the secular, liberal arts school, Reed College, and reflects on the relevancy of Jesus Christ outside of the traditional church walls. He found his faith to be intricate and thought-provoking when brought into the light, and it gave his readers a similar hope that they can embrace the complexities of the Christian life.
