Dark Places

Dark Places is an upcoming psychological mystery film, based on the novel Dark Places by Gillian Flynn. It stars Charlize Theron, Christina Hendricks, Nicholas Hoult and Chloë Grace Moretz.

Set in a farming town in Kansas, Dark Places follows Libby Day (Charlize Theron), the only surviving witness of a horrific massacre that took her mother and sisters. Believing the slaughter to be the work of a Satanic cult, Libby testifies in court against her own brother. Twenty-five years after the murder, she remains haunted by the gruesome violence of her past when she meets a group of amateur investigators who call themselves "The Kill Club". Looking to satisfy their morbid curiosity, the group begins their own inquiry about the case, believing Libby's brother is innocent. In order to help them, Libby must unearth painful memories of the event and learn that her past may not be what it seems.

Everest

Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mt. Everest Disaster is a 1997 bestselling non-fiction book written by Jon Krakauer. It details the author's presence at Mount Everest during the 1996 Mount Everest disaster, when eight climbers were killed and several others were stranded by a rogue storm. The film Everest is based on Krakauer's book.

Black Mass

Black Mass is a crime film based on the 2001 book Black Mass: The True Story of an Unholy Alliance Between the FBI and the Irish Mob by Dick Lehr and Gerard O'Neill. The film stars Johnny Depp, Kevin Bacon, Benedict Cumberbatch, Joel Edgerton, Sienna Miller and Dakota Johnson. The film follows the criminal career of infamous Irish-American mobster Whitey Bulger (Depp).

The film depicts the true story of Whitey Bulger, the brother of a state senator and the most infamous violent criminal in the history of South Boston. Following a string of too many of his violent actions, he becomes an FBI informant for 30 years in order to take down a Mafia family invading his turf. It starts around the late 1970s and early 1980s when Bulger was just beginning this operation, around the time when he was becoming the crime boss of Irish Winter Hill Gang.

The Martian

The Martian is the first published novel by American author Andy Weir. It was originally self-published in 2011 after which Crown Publishing purchased the rights and re-released it in 2014. A science fiction novel, the story follows an American astronaut, Mark Watney, as he becomes stranded alone on Mars and must improvise in order to survive. Many critics have described as the plot as an Apollo 13 meets Cast Away. The Martian, a film adaptation directed by Ridley Scott and starring Matt Damon and Jessica Chastain.

In the Heart of the Sea

In the Heart of the Sea is a disaster drama-thriller film directed by Ron Howard. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Cillian Murphy, and Tom Holland. It is based on Nathaniel Philbrick's 2000 non-fiction book of the same name, about the sinking of the whaleship Essex.

In 1820, the whaleship Essex is crewed by Captain George Pollard, Jr., first officer Owen Chase, second officer Matthew Joy, and cabin boy Thomas Nickerson. During their voyage, the ship is sunk when it is rammed by a very large and enraged bull sperm whale, ultimately leaving its crew shipwrecked at sea for 90 days more than a thousand miles from land. After the attack, the crew sails for South America and is forced to resort to cannibalism.

Room

Room is a film directed by Lenny Abrahamson and written by Emma Donoghue, based on the novel of the same name by Donoghue. The film stars Brie Larson, Joan Allen, William H. Macy, Sean Bridgers and Jacob Tremblay. The story centers around a woman being held captive with her five-year-old son in a single small room for years.
