Nicholas Sparks is a best-selling author whose life changed at 28 when his novel, The Notebook was published, followed quickly by other best-selling novels, including some that were made into movies, like Message in a Bottle, A Walk to Remember, The Rescue, A Bend in the Road, Nights in Rodanthe, and many others. In an interview with Catholic Digest, he said that the characters in his novels are based on Catholic ideals and are grounded in their faith, and that he does not shy away from faith if it is integral in a story.
Sparks is an avid athlete who runs daily and practices taekwondo. He also supports local and national charities and offers scholarships at the University of Notre Dame, particularly to the Creative Writing Program. Nicholas Sparks and his wife Catherine have five children and live in North Carolina.
