Juliana Margulies was born the youngest of three daughters in Spring Valley, New York. She is of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage, from Austria, Hungary, and Romania. Before starting high school in New Hampshire at age 14, she lived in Paris and England. She majored in Art History at Sarah Lawrence College and moved to New York City to pursue acting.

She has been on many successful television series such as NBC’s long running drama, ER, and CBS’s The Good Wife. Her character was supposed to die off in the Pilot of ER but her graceful acting saved her from being cut and she was written into the script for 6 more seasons of the show. She ended up being the only ER character to ever receive an Emmy award. In 2015, Time magazine named her one of the 100 Most Influential People in the world
