Philip Jackson is notably one of the greatest NBA coaches of all time. In 1967, Phil was drafted by the New York Knicks as a basketball player. Even though he was a decent player, he never was a star. In 1980 he retired as a player and in 1987 he was hired as an assistant coach by the Chicago Bulls. Later in 1989 he was promoted as head coach and led the Chicago Bulls to six NBA titles. In 1999 Phil joined the Los Angeles Lakers and led them to three consecutive NBA titles. In 2007, he was named the highest paid NBA coach with a paycheck of $10,000,000 a year.

Phil is a Buddhist and recommends that his players take the Buddhist philosophies, that he instills on the court, off the court as well. He teaches meditation to his players and believes that meditating can help his players make the right choices on the court. Photo courtesy of Keith Allison.
