- fun faith fact! "M.C." now stands for "Man of Christ"
Kirk Burrell, also known as MC Hammer, is a rap innovator, parachute pants icon, and the man behind the epic hit “U Can’t Touch This.” The song’s popularity has long outlasted his own, but the rap superstar has stayed relevant for other reasons. He grew up Pentecostal and acknowledges that he strayed from his faith during his success. In the 1990 film Please Hammer Don’t Hurt ‘Em he played a reverend named “Reverend Pressure,” and he became a reverend for real in 1997. He now devotes his time to prison and youth ministries, but he is still M.C. Hammer, only M.C. stands for “Man of Christ.” Photo courtesy of Joe Seer.
