- fun faith fact! She was tolerant in religious controversies.
The first Queen Elizabeth oversaw what is known as the Elizabethian era. She inherited a government in shambles and over her 44 year reign brought her country back to prosperity. Unlike many in her time, she was religiously tolerant, and her charismatic leadership made her a well known ruler. She was Protestant, and sought Protestant driven ideas to deal with religious issues. While those under her rule were required to attend church, the penalties were not severe.
